Female crime fighters and their wardrobes

I love crime dramas, and I like strong, capable female characters.

However, who dresses these women?? Really, "Rizzoli & Isles"--you need to run the streets of Boston or do autopsies in 3 inch heels? Mgean Hunt (Body of Proof) goes to every crime scene in desinger wear and stilettos? And we all remember the CSI:Miami investigators in their heels and white pants looking at bloody victims.

Dr Hunt also does autopsies (along with her boss) without pulling back her hair. I have never been in an autopsy room but doesn't it seem like a stray hair might interfere with evidence?

At least in "Bones", "The Mentalist" and "NCIS" the females are dressed a little more realistically, although heels to make them taller aren't out of the question.

I realize this is television and therefore, mostly fiction. But I bet the writers try like hell to get details of investigations right, so why dress your stars like they were going on a date?

Please--these are attractive women already. Just dress them for the jobs they are supposed to have, not a fantasy of what you think the viewers would like to see.
